iPhone 4 and iOS App Store Set Various Guinness World Records

Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition

Apple’s iPhone 4 has just made its way into the Guinness Book of World Records 2011 Gamer Edition. According to Guinness, the iPhone 4 was the fastest selling portable gaming system in history. We’re not surprised to be honest. The iOS AppStore too has received recognition for being the most popular application marketplace. Guinness said in an official statement – “For comparison, the PSP shifted 200,000 units on its launch date in 2005, and the DS took a week to move 500,000 consoles in November 2004,”

The iOS AppStore registered three records in total. One being the “Most Popular Application Marketplace” which we already mentioned, the other being “The largest downloadable video game store” with over 37,362 games as recorded on September 2010, and lastly “The largest launch line-up of any gaming system” with 145 games out of 500 apps during the launch. The good old Angry Birds too has received a record for being the “top paid-for App Store game in most countries” with over 6.5 million downloads in 67 countries.

You can get your hands on the Guinness World Records: At Your Fingertips app for iOS at just under $1 and get a brief insight on record holders. Apple’s achievements must really be applauded here, they started off long after brands were established and have now managed to outclass almost all of them.
