Motorola Atrix 4G to Get Android 2.3 Gingerbread

The Motorola Atrix 4G has been launched for about a month now in the U.S and more recently in the UK (without 4G). The device has been praised widely for its performance (not so much for the Moto Blur UI) and quality, but if we were to mention one aspect where the Motorola Atrix fell behind, it would be its OS. The Atrix runs on Android 2.2 Froyo. This in a time when Android 2.3 Gingerbread’s next iteration is being rumored about. So users have been a bit disappointed with that aspect of the device.

And now, the Vice President of International Marketing at Motorola speaking to a website has let a cat out of the bag by saying that the company is planning on a Gingerbread update for the Motorola Atrix 4G but isn’t quite sure as to when it could make its way through to the devices. The update apparently will be rolled out for the U.S and the UK simultaneously. This is very good news for Atrix users and even the potential buyers mainly because of the fact that Motorola has been a bit hesitant usually with OS updates, and they suggest their customers to not count on them for future updates. Seems like Motorola doesn’t want to disappoint its loyal customers this time by not providing the update. Well done Motorola.
